After a successful tasting earlier this year, Meridiana Wine Estate’s flagship wines Isis Chardonnay and Nexus Merlot are available at the Atrium Brasserie, at the luxury Corinthia Royal Hotel in Budapest. Needless to say, it’s great to see our wines listed in one of the top hotels of a beautiful city such as Budapest.
It’s that time of year again !!! Harvest 2016 gets underway with the first cases of Chardonnay. After the Chardonnay we pick the rest of the varieties we produce which are Vermentino, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Stay tuned to our facebook page for photos of the various varieties.
After celebrating his Decanter Man of the Year Awards just a few months ago, Professor Denis Dubourdieu passed away after a prolonged illness. Meridiana will always be grateful to Professor Dubourdieu for convincing us of Maltese wine growing potential. We also send our heartfelt condolences to his family.
Recently we have had the pleasure to host a winery showaround and wine tasting event as part of a string of fund raising activities in aid of Alive Charity Foundation. Recently we have had the pleasure and the honor to host Mr Javier Zaccagnini from top Spanish winemakers, Bodegas Aalto. Mr Zaccagnini’s partner at Aalto is Mr Mariano Garcia, one of Spain’s most influential winemakers. One of Aalto’s red wines ranked in the top ten Spanish red wines of last year. Before partnering with Mr Zaccagnini, Mr Garcia made the wines at Spanish icon producer Vega Sicilia for 30 years. He had special words of praise for our Astarte (Vermentino) and our Melqart (Cabernet/Merlot), a great compliment we humbly accept, especially since it’s coming from a top red wine producer 🙂
After hosting a number of Korean journalists at the estate, Meridiana Wine Estate featured in one the most prestigious Korean travel publications, GO ON. Meridiana was mentioned as a place of interest and recommended for our interesting winery tours and wine tasting activities. We look forward to hosting many Korean visitors.
Bordeaux wine professor Denis Dubourdieu was recently named Man of the Year 2016 of the influential wine magazine Decanter. This fine gentleman was the person who way back in the 1980s persuaded Meridiana’s founder Mark Miceli Farrugia, that there was potential for production of high quality wines in Malta too. Maltese viniculture owes a lot to Professor Dubourdieu. Meridiana thanks you and congratulates you on your great achievement 🙂
During his recent two day visit we have had the pleasure and honour to host EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan for a short visit. Accompanying Commissioner Hogan were Maltese EU Commissioner Karmenu Vella, Environment Minister Leo Brincat and Parliament Secretary for Agriculture Roderick Galdes. In the photo Commissioner is seen replying to questions made by the press.
Grape Picking for Charity 🙂 – Recently we hosted a group of MITA Employees who kindly offered time off to come grape picking at our estate in Ta Qali during the summer 2015 harvest. All their earnings will be donated to charity. In the photo Meridiana’s Estate Manager Karl Chetcuti is seen presenting the cheque to Mr Pierre Vella from MITA. We look forward to repeating this initiative in 2016.
There is a first time for everything !! Recently we hosted a group of South Korean Travel Journalists and Tour Operators on their first ever visit to Malta. They visited our winery and vineyards and after we tasted some wines …. and they took a lot of photos too 🙂 We hope to welcome many South Korean visitors in the months to come.
